The Belfast City Marathon will have an expected field of 15,000 runners this year. This annul marathon has been held on May Day each year since it was first run in 1982. The race offers several options aimed at attracting people to the event with relay and veteran's races being the most notable. |

The course has remained almost constant from its inception except for 2005 when the course was altered to make the route flatter. The new route was unpopular due to large areas with no spectator access, and in 2006 was returned to the old course. |
