| | Dublin: An Introduction |
| | |
| |
Dublin is one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. Dublin is both the Capital and largest city in Ireland as it sits on the east coast of Ireland. Ireland in general has enjoyed 15 years of significant and sustained economic growth which has brought it from being a city in need of repair to its current place as one of the top weekend destinations in Europe. Architecture from another time provides the backdrop as a young population with money to spend enjoy themselves. |

If you are planning to go shopping, Grafton Street must be your first port of call. The street has been developed from a country lane which was owned by the Duke of Grafton to its place now as one of Europe’s top shopping streets. Many of the major brands are catered for on Grafton Street such as Marks and Spencer, Brown Thomas, HMV and many more. Grafton Street rises slowly as it travels from College Green to St Stephen’s Green, lined on both sides by buildings which are both full of colour and character. There are several minor pedestrian streets off Grafton Street, many of which have pubs where you can sit outside with a pint and watch the world walk by. |

Dublin has much more to offer than excellent pubs and shopping. There are several top quality museums that should be considered during any visit to Ireland. The National Gallery of Ireland houses the Irish national art collection which features both national and international works. The museum is situated on Merrion square in Dublin City Centre, only a 5 minute walk from Grafton Street. The museum also hosts visiting collections which are often of top quality. |

Temple Bar is the party capital of Dublin, and while this is the main target area that stag and hen parties visit, it is very easy to think of this area as a drinking only area. There are excellent music venues, markets and restaurants in this area which are well worth a visit. The medieval layout and architecture of the area adds to the character. Irish Sightseeing Tours offer some excellent one day city tours of Dublin. |
