Adidas Dublin Marathon |

2009 will be the 29th year of the Adidas Dublin Marathon having been held every year since 1980. The marathon course is generally flat, and while the route varies each year, the race has been run in an anti clockwise route around the city center in recent years. Since its inception in 1980, the numbers taking part have grown from just 2,100 to many multiples of that number expected to take part during 2009. |

Over 11,900 people took to the starting line on Fitzwilliam Street during 2008, a number that is expected to grow during 2009. The race attracts many visitors from international destinations with over half of the entire field made up of overseas runners. |

During 2001 the race became part of the Adidas Marathon Series, joining an elite selection of marathons supported by Adidas. In Ireland the Adidas Race Series includes several warm up races and the marathon itself. These races are designed to be milestones in the training of participants with 5 miles, 10 miles and half marathon races. |

The race is open to everybody and a qualification time is not needed to take part. Participants are given starting numbers related to their expected completion time which relate to starting zones on the day of the race. Entry to the race starts from €70 and while late entries are permitted they are charged at a premium. |
