The Dublin Port Tunnel is the largest city tunnel in Europe, running over 4.5km long. The Tunnel opened in December 2006 with the main aim of taking all HGV (heavy goods vehicles) off the roads of Dublin City Center. The tunnel is open to all classes of vehicles but only HGVs, busses with over 25 seats and disability adapted vehicles can travel toll free. For everybody else, tolls of between €3 and €12 apply depending on the time of day. |

Before entering the Port Tunnel, make sure you have enough fuel in your vehicle, that you are not wearing sun glasses, have your headlights switched on to dipped and are keeping a safe distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. The speed limit in the tunnel is 80km p/h and you should only stop in the case of an emergency. |
