| | Ireland: Getting Around |
| |
|
| | Because of Ireland’s small size it is easy to see all the sights in a relatively short space of time. It is possible to drive from north to south comfortably in a day and east to west can take as little as three hours. |
| |
|
| | By far the most popular way for visitors to explore Ireland is by car. Many bring their own while many hire a car from one of the many car rental agencies in Ireland. Car rental in Ireland can be very economical, and the longer the rental period the better value it will be. It also provides you with the opportunity to explore the country at your own pace with a freedom that you just don’t get with public transport. |

If car rental is not the option for you, Ireland boasts an efficient public transport system. All the major cities have their own transport networks while there are regular buses and trains between the major cities and towns. |

| |
The national bus system is run by state body Bus Eireann and will take you where you need to go in the Republic of Ireland. However, bear in mind that services to more remote areas of Ireland may not be very frequent. There are also a number of private operators, such as Aircoach, that provide services between the major cities. |

Iarnrod Eireann, another state body, runs the rail service. Dublin is linked to all the other major cities in Ireland by train – Cork, Limerick and Galway. There is also a rail service to Wexford and Rosslare, and Sligo. The speed and reliability of the rail service has improved significantly in recent years. |
