Motorways in the Republic of Ireland are denoted by the prefix ‘M’ while national routes are denoted by the prefix ‘N’. Generally speaking the motorway network radiates from Dublin and particularly the M50 which is a C style ring road around the Dublin City area. |

Motorways are generally speaking a new arrival in Ireland and although the first official motorway arrived in Ireland in 1983, it hasn’t’ been until recently that the road networks throughout Ireland are being upgraded to motorways. |
