Michael Collins (Politics)

Michael Collins was a revolutionary leader during the battle for independence from British Rule. He later went on to serve as Minister for Finance and Director of Intelligence for the IRA. He was assassinated in August 1922 during the Irish Civil War. Fine Gael is the modern incarnation of his political party.

Roy Keane (Sports)

Roy Keane was born on August 10 1971. Although he is now retired, he was a world class footballer for Manchester United where he won many honours and captained the club for many years. His move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester United was at the time, the highest transfer fee ever paid. Roy Keane retired from football in 2006 after helping Celtic lift the Scottish Premier League trophy.

Cillian Murphy (Film and Entertainment)

Cillian Murphy was born on May 25 1976 in Douglas. After studying law, he decided to follow another route into acting. His first file was Quando in 1997 and he recently starred as ‘Scarecrow’ in the recent Batman film, Batman Begins. Cillian has hit the big time and now it seems there is no stopping him.
